He was born on the 17th of April, 1946, in Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull. ... Upon graduating, Duncan moved back to Mull, where he began work as a teacher. He became Chair of the Trustees of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in 1978, a position which he held until 1983.
